Xanadu Estate is a R2.1 billion eco park development near Hartbeespoort Dam.
The official launch Xanadu Eco Park Residential Estate took place on 16 May 2002.
Conveniently situated closely from Pretoria and Sandton, Xanadu is situated at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains at the edge of the Hartbeespoort Dam. Xanadu Eco Park offers a rich heritage, pristine vistas, indigenous fauna and flora and the tranquil lifestyle of the unspoiled Swartspruit Valley.
Over 45% of the land is reserved for the eco park "The estate consists of 680 residential stands and sites for approximately 200 townhouses and 196 Lifestyle for the over 50’s, and assisted living units with frail care, with spectacular views of the mountains all around.
Xanadu Eco Park is sensitive to the preservation of the areas precious wetland ecosystem. "Our plans include the creation of more wetlands and islands where the aquatic birds of the area can nest and breed. Traffic on the Hartbeespoort Dam has disturbed these brids and we are hoping that these wetlands will prevent them from leaving the area forever. Carefully planned walkways through these areas will enable the residents to appreciate the abundant bird life with minimum impact. These wetlands also act as bio-filter to improve the quality of water feeding the Hartbeespoort Dam".
Since the reintroduction of the wetlands, hundreds of birds have migrated to Xanadu including fish eagles
To cater to the needs of its residents, the development includes a filling station and a shopping centre. Xanadu Eco Park also boast a private school and a retirement village.
Mr. Bezuidenhout has an enormous emotional stake in this development as his grandfather, the legendary Bezuidenhouts of Bezuidenhout Valley in Johannesburg, purchased Xanadu farm way back in 1942. "For me the development of Xanadu Eco Park goes beyond just the continuation of our family legacy, I am passionate about creating a lifestyle where people and nature can co-exist in perfect harmony. We hope to prove to all major developers out there that investing in the environment yields a real return in terms of value creation.
